The Maldives is not just about diving!
To add variety, we recommend including these in your Maldivian routine:
1. Male:
It’s not only “where the airport is.” Visit the tuna market, where trading is as lively as a stock exchange, and the ancient Coral Stone Mosque.
2. Local Islands:
These are the islands where locals actually live. Here, you’ll find their real, non-touristic life — with local schools, kindergartens, and shops.
3. Bodu Beru: Hypnotic rhythms of the “big drum.” Everyone dances — from resort waiters to villagers during festivals.
4. Lacquer work (Liye Laajehun): Discover local craftsmanship! Exquisite black-red-gold lacquered boxes and other wooden items. Look for them on Thulhaadhoo Island and in souvenir shops.
5. Mas Huni: Try the national breakfast. Spicy tuna with coconut, served with flatbread called “roshi.” The taste of a Maldivian morning.
6. Garudhiya: The essence of local cuisine! Not just broth, but pure zen. A clear fish soup with lime and chili.
Please note:
Away from the beach — shoulders and knees should be covered. Photos of people — only with permission. While showing interest, please respect the locals, their culture, and laws!
