Coral reef restoration

Coral reef restoration — the successful transplantation of 1,200 coral colonies in the Maldives.

On September 18, 2025, Finolhu Resort completed a four-day coral transplantation event.

As part of the initiative led by marine biologist Ivanna Tobar, approximately 1,200 coral colonies were transplanted, carefully relocated from the resort's nurseries to its own reef.

This supports the preservation of one of the Maldives' most vital marine ecosystems.

Four marine biologists participated in the event—they were involved in practical coral transplantation dives, equipment preparation, and reef condition assessment.

“This initiative is more than just coral restoration,” — event participant Steven Phillips.

“Coral restoration is especially important for the Maldives; it supports the fishing industry and forms the basis of the tourism sector.”

In addition to restoring corals, the resort actively monitors reef health, manages a coral nursery, and develops sustainable marine practices to ensure its reef remains vibrant and healthy for future generations.

This event highlights the importance of environmental conservation and offers you the chance to enjoy a vibrant reef full of the most extraordinary corals in the Maldives!
